Type 1 Diabetes And Sleep Disorders: 4 Tips To Avoid Hypoglycemia

3. Prevent hypoglycemia and headaches the day after drinking

Insulin can cause metabolic syndrome.

Of course, people also like to sleep, especially if they drink alcohol. And what could be better than not having to set an alarm clock after a night of drinking?

But these little escapades can sometimes disturb your sleep. And as everyone knows, they also come with an inevitable hangover. Consuming beer, wine, or other alcoholic beverages also increases the risk of hypoglycemia during the night.

To avoid these inconveniences, a few tips:

  • Drink plenty of water before bed to prevent alcohol-induced dehydration.
  • Don’t eat fatty foods just before bedtime. For example, stop eating a kebab on the way home from the club.
  • Create a pleasant sleeping atmosphere (night mask, lavender essential oil, etc.).
  • And of course, don’t forget to close the shutters to avoid unwanted morning light.

However, hypoglycemia during the night is not always avoidable. Remember to keep a piece of glucose near your bed to correct hypoglycemia as soon as possible.
